When daily work life in NYC starts to feel like a lather-rinse-and-repeat cycle, the weekend gives us a chance to change things up a bit… and recharge our batteries along the way.

Long weekends are even sweeter, and the recent Memorial Day holiday didn’t disappoint. Highlights included a purchase of a road bike, precious friends in town, and lots of pretty photos!

It was overcast that Saturday afternoon, but sunnier earlier. The good folks at Ciel Bikes on the Upper East Side outfitted me with a new road bike.

I originally planned on getting a supercute Biria CitiBike, but my husband is tall and owns a Giant hybrid, so I needed a fast, efficient ride in order to keep up with him! Totally loving what I got: a pretty turquoise/aqua Giant Avail that’s speedy and light!

You’ll know you’re in LIC when you see the Pepsi sign. I just didn’t realize it was this HUGE up close!

The next day, we took the East River Ferry from Hunter’s Point to midtown Manhattan, and then biked to Central Park. My dear friend, Lille—we go way back in Seventeen!—and her family were visiting from Southern California.

A good day to be out.

We’ve had a looong winter, so we’re basking in sunshine at every opportunity! A doctor actually said that people in the East Coast get Vitamin D deficient because we get little sunlight, le sigh.
