Yoyogi in Tokyo ❤️ (From our November trip ✈️)

Greetings from Japan—where everything is so darn cute and exquisitely, mindfully made; a true feast for the senses!

We arrived in Tokyo midnight at the start of the weekend, and Day 1 has been stellar thus far. Thought I’d check in and post some photos. 🙂

We’re here basically for three reasons:

1) Impromptu partial honeymoon
I’ve always thought we would jet off to Italy for this; but we haven’t gotten around planning that trip…And it’s been five years since we wed. 😀 I actually thought about this on the plane: Perhaps because life is so fast-paced in New York, we tend to take things much slower in our personal time. Plus, every day is a honeymoon, anyway!

As it turns out, our planned trip to the Philippines (which usually includes a short layover in Japan, Hong Kong, or Korea) was less expensive if we actually stayed for a few days in Tokyo. Amazing, right? So here we are.

2) Akihabara
My husband is one of the most well-rounded people I know. And one of the most hardworking. He is an awesome person. And it was his birthday last week. Proof that he is a decent human being, he had a birthday dinner with friends Friday, then dinner and drinks with coworkers the following Tuesday; both get-togethers had good turnout. Now, my self-esteem is fine, thank you very much, but just throwing it out there, if I had a birthday party, maybe four people would show up.

Anyway, I digress. As mentioned in my Back To The Future post, my husband happens to be a videogame aficionado. He will geek out on anything Mario or vintage 80s-90s Nintendo Superness, Family Computer, and co. I don’t have to mention that the PS4 and Destiny are part of our lives now. Chores, meals, and ice cream are the currency for gaming time, by the way. Loaded and unloaded the dishwasher? Check. Walked the dog? Check. Honey chicken in the slowcooker? Check. Okay, mission on. (And I get to shop Land’s End and Uniqlo online in bed while eating ice cream. Win-win, right?)

Now, FYI + backstory: I wouldn’t have met my husband if he weren’t an avid gamer. You see, when the publishing and media company that I worked for launched the UK-based magazine Gamesmaster, he was brought in as a publishing assistant, eventually becoming the associate publisher

3) The Food!!!

[Update April 2017: And this is where I ended with this post and never got to upload, so doing that now!]
